Homemade Pretzel Bites with a Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

Another great game day recipe! These pretzel bites are so delicious and incredibly easy to make. If you are usually intimidated by recipes using yeast, do not let intimidation stop you from making these.

This was my second time making homemade pretzels. The first time I made pretzels I made them into the traditional twisted shape. They were delicious, but so big that if I wanted just a bite I had to pretty much still eat the whole pretzel. These pretzel bites are the perfect size.

The homemade honey mustard dip that accompanies these pretzel bites is also extremely easy to make and only requires a few simple ingredients. If you make the pretzels, you have to make the dip to go with them.

I hope you enjoy these pretzel bites at your next game day party or just as a fun snack to make. I suggest kneading the dough by hand. I enjoy it more than letting my mixer do it for me and it is a little bit of an arm workout as well. Trust me, you'll need a little bit of a workout before losing almost all self control and devouring these.

Homemade Pretzel Bites:
(original recipe from: http://shopgirlmaria.blogspot.com)

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 package yeast
1 cup warm water (100-105°)

Topping:

1/2 cup warm water
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 tablespoons butter, melted
sea salt, for sprinkling

  1. Combine the warm water, sugar and yeast in a small bowl. Cover and let sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. When the yeast mixture is frothy, pour it into the flour. Stir with a wooden spoon until a ball forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes, until the dough comes together and is a smooth elastic ball.
  4. Put the ball of dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Put in a warm place  to rise for an hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Once the dough has risen, break it up into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece out into a long log.  Cut each log into 2-3 inches long pieces. Combine the 1/2 cup warm water and baking soda in a    small bowl. Dip each piece into the water mixture and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes. Once the pretzels are done brush them with the melted butter and sprinkle them with sea salt.
